Joe, Warmed Over

This past weekend we worked on a new Kiki short, to be debut’d on the shows in May (17,18,19). This one is a commercial, spoofing something that I think is already a spoof: Restless Leg Syndrome. I started mouthing off during the making of the short about how I really just didn’t believe in anyone actually having such a disease, but two members of Kiki said that their mothers have RLS. Their moms’legs get the “creepy crawlies”. And that kind of freaks me out.

So the usually handsome man you see in this photograph is our writer/actor Joe Halberda, who is playing a soul afflicted with our take on a ridiculous disease. You’ll have to wait for the show to see what he’s actually suffering from. But obviously, it’s terrible.

And tonight we’ll be filming another short, this time for the Charleston City Paper’s website, advertising their Spoleto blog. Which will be podcast from this very apartment, using this very computer. It’s a nice coup, I think, and a good learning experience for me. The inspiration comes from this beautiful piece of work: “Welcome to My Home”. I’m just going to take a lot of prescription meds, lay out some Fabulous outfits, and turn the camera on. Teleport into my closet!

This is not cookie dough. It’s a pan of beans. And I’m so sorry.

Kettle corn and a samosa. It really fuels the writing process.
