When Will This Stupid Stupidness Be Over?
March 21st, 2008 . by mattI just got a notice about Bush’s super-duper pathetic attempt to bribe the American people into thinking that he might have been an OK President after all… the Economic Stimulus Act. I know that it’s really just an incentive to have us all spend money and therefore build up the economy, but really. I mean, really. Think about it. Ridiculous.
In fact, I can’t even come up with an interesting diatribe about it. Ironically, it’s a rare and strange day that I would ever contest the option of receiving a check for $600 in the mail. But there has to be a better way. Does anyone have an idea for what to do with this check that would actually do some good, besides support a war that shouldn’t be happening? Because as broke as I am, this money feels kind of dirty, and I want to do something wicked with it.
Wicked as in “wicked awesome”.
did you file your taxes already? i want a check too!
honestly, matt? besides giving it to a worthy charity, the best thing you can do with it would be to save it. put in it a savings account and let it sit. “they” want you to spend it on things like dvd players and luxury cars, thereby boosting the economy - “they” DO NOT want us to use it to pay off our credit card debt or save it for the future. mine’s going right into savings.
I say buy 2000 Dumdum lollipops and send them to the Whitehouse. Or put it into a Roth IRA, either way…
Investing is the reasonable thing to do, but there’s also microfinancing via Kiva.org if you feel that you want a little more karma than rate of return. I’ve just started using it, loaning to a woman in Peru that sells spices.
I’m with Nick. I would push for an ING account (save) or the Alzheimer’s Association (donate). But that’s just what I’m doing with it.
Not sure if you guys saw it but on the news today they were giving suggestion’s of what to do with the check you will be getting from the government to boost the economy. Guess what their top suggestions were? Save it and pay off bills. I thought it was funny in a weird way.
Or you can support your favorite band(s), buy their CDs and spread them to people and tea/coffee houses to play! Especially if you buy them straight from the musicians at shows! How about “selectively” supporting the economy!
And use the rest of money to pay off bills!
