Let Her Cry. Actually, Let Me Cry.

August 25th, 2008 . by matt

Interesting concept.

Upon reading this, my brother Evan wanted to know whether the ballet would include this in Hootie’s History: the forming of a South Carolina boutique label with Atlantic Records called Breaking, their signing of another South Carolina band, Jump, Little Children, and the subsequent emotional and financial torture they (and their lawyers) eventually put said band through, which in part influenced Jump’s eventual demise as a group.

Now that’s a dance piece I’d go see!

Or… maybe it’s a rock musical I’d like to write?

This idea leaves me perplexed and more than a little nauseous. What? (I would like to collaborate on that financial torture artistic death musical. That sounds yummy!)

Have you *met* William Starret? If you turn the music off, all his ballets look just alike. Remember “Off The Wall”? Scenes looked pretty, but it got panned by the New York Times because Mr. Starret didn’t bother researching Gullah culture - and I *know* that Mr. Raving Matt knows more about Gullah culture than Mr. Starret.

Guess how much Mr. Starret actually knows about Hootie? This is a disaster waiting to happen. Choreography from “Coppelia” set to Hootie. ARGH!!!!

Of course, the State Paper here will actually let him write his own review, so everybody will think it’s wonderful…

Agh, this really makes me sick to my stomach…I may have to sneak in to throw some rotten fruit (and possibly eggs) at that horrid, manipulative band of dream-dashers, who ruined my favorite band’s chances of success and yet will never themselves come close in talent, skill, or originality. Screw this Starrett guy for doing this! “immortalize their achievements through art” my ass!
Hope the show is a huge flop - will concentrate my mental efforts on it.

But this brings up an interesting idea…how can we contact this Starret person and maybe collectively share what the Hootie evildoers have done to Jump!
Can we find someone to do a Jump ballet :)? Maybe we can resuscitate Tchaikovsky for the job…hmmm.

yes, it’s true that the hootie ballet will take place (so far) in april 2009. as i work at koger center, please don’t throw any rotten fruit or eggs as we will have to clean it up! ;-P the band is supposed to perform live along with the ballet. yes, this is all gonna be very interesting to see come to fruition. i will relay to starrett of an extra scene that needs to be added…
